What's The Biggest Challenge Refugees Face?
Learning English is the biggest challenge refugees face when starting over in Canada, as it forms the foundation for everything from finding a job to securing a home. However, long wait times and overcrowded language classes often leave them without the basics and practice needed to build this essential skill.
By matching with a Haven Language Program student, you can provide the necessary support to help them improve their English—one conversation at a time.

Where Do Canadians Fit Into The Equation?
The Haven Language Program empowers refugees to learn English quickly and effectively, thanks to the support of everyday Canadians like you. Our approach is simple yet powerful—by matching refugees with native speakers for one-on-one practice, we accelerate their language learning.
With your help, refugees learn English three times faster than in traditional government-funded programs.
Your involvement is crucial, offering refugees the personalized support they need to thrive in their new home.
Meet our teachers
We hire highly qualified English teachers, many of whom are newcomers themselves, to offer flexible online classes tailored to refugee students. These teachers bring extensive experience and a deep understanding of the challenges their students face, often speaking the same native language.
Through Haven, we provide meaningful employment opportunities for these educators, allowing them to share their expertise and support others on a similar journey.

This program was made possible by the team at Open Arms.
Founded in 2021, Open Arms is a Toronto based organization dedicated to helping people fleeing conflict around the world transition to a new life in Canada. They have raised over $100,000 to support people who are impacted by global conflict to access the necessary resources and community required to start their new lives.
